Macclesfield Police have taken delivery of 4 new police bikes to help them get around the town, keep in close contact with the community and also get access to areas that police cars can’t.

The four bikes are already in use and have had success around the town.

The bikes, funded by Macclesfield Town Council, are the start of a partnership between the police and the council which has already seen the council commit funding to support police initiatives in the town.

Pete Turner, the Town Clerk of Macclesfield, commented that

“we truly value the work of our local policing unit and we have been working together to see how the council can support the police and augment their excellent service to the community.
“We have agreed funding for a number of local policing initiatives in the town which include these great new police bikes.”

Speaking of the partnership, Sgt Rob Simpson of the Macclesfield Local Policing Unit said,

“We are very grateful for the support given to us by our Town Council. We now have some fantastic bikes that will allow us patrol areas quickly and silently, targeting those involved in anti-social behaviour and crime. On their first day out, we located a young female missing from home and disrupted a group of teenagers causing issues in West Park”

The bikes will become a common sight around Macclesfield and the partnership approach will see more initiatives delivered in Macclesfield.
