Macclesfield Cycle Saturday

New cycle event for Macclesfield

Published on: Thursday May 25, 2017

On Saturday 1st July from 10am-2pm, we will be holding a new event for the Town called Cycle Saturday, which will be the launch of our five brand new cycle route leaflets.

Macclesfield is perfectly placed to be the start and end location for a day out cycling. There are some fantastic places to eat and drink all within walking (and definitely riding) distance from the train station. You only have to look out in the distance to see that if a cyclist would like to challenge themselves with some climbing and to enjoy some views, they don’t need to go far!

Cycle Saturday is all about promoting cycling as a brilliant way of becoming more active and getting out and about. We recently launched a new initiative ‘MaccTivity‘ to encourage local people to move more and to increase their physical activity each day.

We are all aware that being outside and being more active will not only help our physical fitness, it also has a positive impact on our mental wellbeing and can reduce the chance of some serious health conditions so it makes sense for us to help make activity the preferred option.

If you would like to try cycling but are feeling a bit unsure of how to get started, come along to our event and speak to a specialist Bike Doctor who can give you advice on choosing the right bike, any bike issues and talk to you about confidence when riding.

For those who would like to actively join in on the day, there is a challenging 14 mile adult ride setting off from the Market Place at 10am and a 4 mile family cycle route setting off from the market place at 10:15am. Registration for these rides is free but essential and details of how to register are below.

While the cyclists are out on their ride, the Market Place will be a hub activity. Everybody Leisure are bringing along a smoothie bike and will be running a static cycling challenge, St John Ambulance will be providing essential first aid knowledge for cyclists and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service will be in attendance talking to people about cycling safely. Local cycling group Macclesfield Wheelers will be setting off on their weekly ride from the Town Centre at 1pm so the Market Place will be full of orange jersey tops ready for their Grand Depart. It will also be your opportunity to pick up our new cycle ride leaflets, all of which leave from and return to the Town Centre.

If you would like to take part in one of the rides on the day or would like more information about the event, please e-mail community@macclesfield-tc.gov.uk for a registration pack. Registration closes on Friday 16th June.

We look forward to seeing you there!
