Station Artwork

Train Station Welcome Art
The visual welcome for visitors arriving at Macclesfield by train improved hugely this week with the installation of an artwork featuring landmarks from the town.
The metal artwork mural, commissioned by Macclesfield Town Council and designed by artist Tim Davies, was the favourite choice of Macclesfield residents who voted on three different submissions in a public consultation last year.
Macclesfield station is the gateway to the town for a large number of commuters, visitors, shoppers and residents. On leaving the station, travellers were faced with a blank, grey breeze-block wall and also a street scape that provides little indication of the town centre it serves. The main objectives of the commission were to create a unique piece of art bespoke to the local community which would reflect Macclesfield’s rich historical heritage. It enhances the plain wall, the first thing that visitors see when they exit the station.
The design work was completed with help from children from Bollinbrook Primary School, Park Royal Community School, Ash Grove Academy and students from Macclesfield Academy and Macclesfield College.
