Freedom of the Town

Freedom of the Town

The Freedom of the Town is one of the highest honours that the Council can bestow. It is awarded to individuals or organisations who have rendered eminent service to the town or have brought distinction and pride to the community.

This historic tradition recognises exceptional contributions in fields such as public service, culture, business, sport, the armed forces, and voluntary work. The honour symbolises the gratitude and respect of the town and its residents.

Recipients of the Freedom of the Town are nominated by councillors and approved by the Council at a special meeting. Each award celebrates dedication, leadership, and a lasting positive impact on the life of the community.

The Freedom Roll is maintained to record those who have been granted the Freedom of the Town and to preserve their achievements for future generations.
