Macclesfield Town Council approve motion opposing Adlington New Town

At the Macclesfield Town Council Full Council meeting on 2 February 2026 Councillors approved a motion opposing Adlington New Town and urging the Government to abandon the proposal, citing serious concerns about infrastructure capacity, loss of green belt and farmland, lack of community engagement, and the need to prioritise genuinely affordable housing on brownfield and town-centre sites instead.

The Council also approved Macclesfield Town Council acting as the accountable body for Macclesfield’s Town of Culture 2028 bid, which will be led by Macclesfield Culture Collective in partnership with the Council to deliver an inclusive cultural programme aimed at boosting pride, wellbeing, and opportunity across the town.
