Macclesfield wins GOLD!!!

THERE were celebrations in Macclesfield on Thursday (20th October) as the town was officially declared blooming marvellous.

After only it’s third year of entering the competition, Macclesfield finally struck gold in the regions leading environmental competition, the Northwest Britain in Bloom Awards, held at the Bolton Stadium Hotel.

The town has previously been awarded Silver and Silver Gilt in the small city category and took a year out in 2021 with a vow to go for gold in 2022.

Bloom Committee Chair Cllr Janet Jackson MBE said: “We are absolutely thrilled to win gold in this prestigious competition. The success started with the hard work put in by the Macclesfield in Bloom committee, and we received fantastic support from volunteers, residents, businesses and organisations across the town centre and various wards of the town.”

The Britain in Bloom competition is not only about displays of brightly coloured flowers, but is also about making a long-term investment in the environment of the town which has been demonstrated through the increased biodiversity across Macclesfield.

Committee member John Williams said the award was “for the town of Macclesfield, not just the In Bloom volunteers”.
