Public Questions
Sue and Rachael attended on behalf of Pride to present their proposal, agenda item 6.1.1. They thanked the Council for its funding support in previous years and provided an update on their ongoing activities.
They highlighted initiatives including Rainbow Brews, various fundraising events, Pride, and Picnic in the Park. They emphasised that MaccPride is not solely focused on delivering a single annual event but operates throughout the year to support and engage the community.
Cllr Sarah Bennett-Wake asked how Pride would manage issues relating to political parties attending their events, noting that there had been difficulties last year.
Representatives from Pride confirmed that they had reflected on the previous experience, learned lessons, and amended their constitution to ensure that the organisation does not align itself with any political party.
Cllr Bennett-Wake welcomed this approach, stating she was pleased that lessons had been learned and emphasised that all allies, regardless of their political views, should feel welcome at Pride events.
